Council for Voluntary Services

CVS - supports and strengthens a vibrant and diverse voluntary and community sector in Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.

Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS (HRVCVS) is actively engaged in the formation of strategic cross-sectoral partnerships.  HRVCVS aims to meet the increasing demands of legislative, social and structural changes and to act as a conduit between the local authority, the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) other partnership bodies and Hyndburn and Ribble Valley communities in the development of local strategic initiatives and to be the leading voluntary and community sector development agency in the pursuance of economic and social regeneration partnership initiatives.

HRVCVS will work as an active partner in the planning, development and delivery of initiatives responding to central government policy, such as activities to tackle social exclusion, health inequality and long term unemployment and to encourage inward investment and to be in a position to maximise leverage to the sector through external funds from (for example) the Big Lottery Fund, charitable trusts, corporate sponsors, central government initiatives.

HRVCVS was established in 1998 after it split with Blackburn with Darwen CVS.

HRVCVS is a registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee.  HRVCVS is a membership organisation, made up of voluntary organisations such as registered charities and community groups.  An Executive Committee made up of elected representatives from membership organisations manage it.

We are also part of a local and national network of over 200 Councils for Voluntary Service.  Over its history the organisation has been at the forefront of voluntary and community sector activity and has assisted in the development of major new projects and services which have become an integral part of voluntary and community sector infrastructure in Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.

HRVCVS operates under an all-encompassing equality and diversity policy, seeks to work with under-supported and under-represented groups and has a strong commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice.
